The Honorable Kent Grusendorf will present a history on the development of school choice in Texas. He represented Arlington for twenty years, 1987-2007, in the Texas legislature where his primary interest and focus was education. In his freshman term, due to his prior service on the State Board of Education, he was viewed as a leader on education issues. Appointed by three governors and three House Speakers to the House Public Education Committee and various Select Committees, he played a significant role in crafting legislation concerning charter schools and school finance. He is currently serving as President of Liberty for The Kids, a Texas non-profit dedicated to educational freedom. Grusendorf has authored numerous studies and editorials related to education and education finance. In 2020 he released his book Saving Public Education -Setting Teacher Free to Teach. The book reviews 50 years of failed top-down educational policy and outlines a realistic program for educational success.
